  • Lemon facts

    • Lemons can be stored longer if you put them in a glass bottle and add water (the lemons must be submerged in it). You have to change the water daily, but the lemons will be fresh for a long time.
    • If you only used half a lemon, you can store it in the fridge for longer if you place it sliced side down on a small plate.
    • You must store excess lemon juice in the freezer.
    • When rasping a lemon, always do it gently and don’t rasp to the white part of the lemon.  The white part will make the zest bitter.
    • You should dry freshly rasped zest in a frying pan, under medium flame, for about 2 minutes. When done, let it cool down for about 2 hours.
    • Zest can be stored for long periods of time if you mix it with sugar and put the resulted mix in a bottle.
    • From a standard sized lemon, you will get 2.5 tablespoons of juice and 1 tablespoon of zest.
    • You’ll get more juice from a lemon if you heat it a little (in the microwave) before squeezing it.
    • If you only need a little lemon juice when cooking, you can store the lemon longer if you first stick a toothpick into the lemon and squeeze the juice out of the created hole. When done, you can insert the toothpick back into the lemon and put the lemon back into the fridge.

    • Icing sugar melts quicker so it’s ideal to use in cakes. You can make icing sugar by grinding regular sugar. This is also true for brown sugar.
    • You can add a little sugar in spicy dishes. The end result will blow your mind. I always put a little sugar in ratatouille and it makes it absolutely delicious.

  • Keeping salt and icing sugar from lumping

    0

You can keep salt and sugar from sticking together, if you put a few pieces of rice in the container where you store them. Brown sugar is specially prone to lumping, and must be kept in an air-tight container. To prevent brown sugar from sticking together, you can put a slice of bread of apple in the container.

Add the juice from 4-5 oranges to a tub with hot water and sit in it at least 15 minutes. This will regenerate the skin’s natural PH,  and will improve the circulation.
As it acts like an aromatherapy product, it also has a calming effect, it reduces anxiety, enhance short-term memory, and just helps you relax.

This bath is particularly good if you have oily skin.

Instead of oranges, you can also use the juice from 2-3 grapefuits or lemons, or any combination of the three.
